Position Overview

We seek an experienced and pragmatic Regulatory Counsel to join our in-house legal team in Amsterdam, supporting the business on a broad range of telecommunications and digital regulatory matters across the EU and other key international markets.

This role will suit a lawyer with strong experience in telecoms regulation, platform regulation, data privacy, and/or digital compliance, who is ready to work in a fast-paced, international tech environment.

The emphasis of this role is advising 1GLOBAL on the law that is specific to the telecommunications industry and data protection obligations with equal focus across all 1GLOBAL countries.  You should have a sound knowledge of the European Electronic Communications Code.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory and compliance obligations across all countries in which 1GLOBAL operates concerning telecoms and digital space, including areas such as:
• Electronic communications services (EECC)
• Platform regulation (e.g. DSA, DMA)
• Cybersecurity (e.g. NIS2)
• Data privacy (GDPR)
• Roaming, MVNO licensing, spectrum allocation
• Advise on license applications in respect of countries into which the business is considering expansion and compliance with regulatory obligations as they relate to 1GLOBAL as a full MVNO;
• Proactively advise on privacy (GDPR) when necessary and offer sound legal risk evaluations and recommendations to all areas of the business and to country managers and their respective teams;
• Work regularly with the product team, particularly in relation to new services and new 1GLOBAL countries, to monitor and proactively advise on regulatory compliance, product compliance and consumer laws;
• Identify and evaluate forms of legal risk for the business and assist in developing policies and/or a compliance framework for the business;
• Liaise with external counsel internationally to assist in providing effective and cost-efficient legal advice and services to the company in multiple jurisdictions;
• Support the launch and operation of products and services in compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks;
• Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and consultations;
• Track regulatory developments across the EU and provide strategic advice on their business impact;
• Engage with regulatory authorities and contribute to responses to public consultations;
• Collaborate closely with colleagues in legal, public policy, compliance, and product teams.

Requirements

Must Have:

• Admission as a lawyer in an EU jurisdiction or the UK or US
• 4–8 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally with a focus on telecoms, technology, or digital regulation
• Background at a top-tier law firm, telecoms regulator, or in-house in a tech or telecoms company
• Deep knowledge of EU telecom and digital regulation; familiarity with Dutch regulatory environment is a plus
• Experience with 5G private networks
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to translate complex regulation into clear business guidance
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or German is advantageous but not essential
• Proactive, commercially minded, and able to work independently in a cross-functional environment
• Ability to work autonomously and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively with limited oversight, efficiently and quickly, yet also being able to participate as a team player 
• Be highly organised with the ability to prioritise assistance on projects and contracts from inception through to completion all with strong attention to detail
