About 1GLOBAL
History
1GLOBAL was established in 2022 by two experienced technology entrepreneurs, Hakan Koç and Pyrros Koussios, that are also its sole proprietors. 1GLOBAL has no external or third-party equity or debt.
On 24th January 2023, 1GLOBAL completed acquisition of the assets of Truphone Ltd. after securing a variety of licenses from the UK and other governments and undergoing a national security review in the UK, Germany and the US.
1GLOBAL was quickly able to refocus Truphone to make it profitable at the operating level, and by 2023 was already generating a surplus cash-flow which was used to defray the transaction costs and reinvest in network infrastructure. Today, 1GLOBAL stands as a viable cash generative business, rapidly reinvesting in infrastructure to support rapid growth.
Our leadership
Hakan Koç is a co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of 1GLOBAL. Hakan is a German entrepreneur and business angel with a successful track record in technology companies.
Prior to establishing 1GLOBAL, he co-founded AUTO1 Group SE, Europe's leading platform for buying and selling used cars (FY2022 EUR 6.5bn revenues, >6,000 FTEs). After launching the company in 2012 and raising over EUR 1bn of capital from institutional investors, he co-led AUTO1's rapid growth and took the company public in 2021 (the IPO raised EUR 1.8bn capital - the largest in Frankfurt since two decades - and was underwritten by BNP Paribas, CITI, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Barclays, HSBC, Numis, RBC, Credit Agricole, Commerzbank, Mizuho and Wells Fargo).
He is still a member and vice chairman of the company's supervisory board.
Before founding AUTO1, Hakan held leadership positions as Chief Product Officer at home24 SE and Entrepreneur in Residence at Rocket Internet SE. He is a graduate of Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. Hakan’s first paid job at the age of 15 was a Linux software/DevOps engineering role at the local telco provider in his hometown in Kiel, Germany.
Pyrros Koussios is a co-founder and principal at 1GLOBAL, a veteran technology investor and advisor to private equity funds.
In addition to his role at 1GLOBAL, Pyrros is a senior advisor to the fund established by the German utility Eon and is on the board of several private technology companies. Prior to that, Pyrros was with Vector Capital and earlier was responsible for group strategy and corporate development at NDS/Cisco, where he led its IPO, its management buyout, and the sale of NDS to Cisco for $5B.
He started his professional career as a software engineer and entrepreneur in Switzerland. He holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and has attended the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter is a non-executive director at 1GLOBAL. Hannes is a renowned telecommunications manager with over 19 years of executive leadership roles at global telecom enterprises.
Most recently, he was the CEO of Vodafone Germany and a member of the worldwide Vodafone Group’s Executive Committee from 2015 until 2022. In those roles, he led the company’s extraordinary growth, launched the first commercial 5G network in Germany, and spearheaded the integration of Unitymedia.
Before his tenure at Vodafone, Hannes spent six years as Chairman and CEO of Telekom Austria Group, which operates in 8 countries. He also served as CEO of A1 Telekom, a company formed by merging Mobilkom Austria AG and Telekom Austria TA AG.
