Lidl Connect - Roaming Information

Using your phone abroad
When you travel with Lidl Connect, your experience depends on where you're travelling to. Use the sections below to find out what applies to your destination.
Destinations included in your roaming allowance
You can use your plan while travelling in the EU/EEA, Ukraine and Moldova, UK and Switzerland at your domestic rates and no extra cost.
What's included
Service | Your allowance abroad |
Calls | Unlimited at your domestic rate |
Texts (SMS) | Unlimited at your domestic rate |
Data | 50 GB, after which data stops, subject to the Fair Use Policy below |
Your roaming allowance mirrors your domestic plan. If your domestic plan changes, your roaming allowance updates automatically at the same time (Article 8(3) Regulation (EU) 2022/612).
Fair Use Policy (FUP)
We apply a fair use policy to prevent abusive or anomalous use of roaming — for example, using a Lidl Connect SIM as if you were permanently resident in another country rather than travelling periodically. Full details of our Fair Use Policy, including the data allowance while roaming, what happens if you exceed it, and how we assess normal residence and usage patterns, are available here.
Quality of service while roaming
- You should experience the same network generation and technology (e.g. 4G, 5G) abroad as you do at home, where the visited network supports it and it's technically feasible.
- Speeds may vary depending on the local network's coverage and capacity.
- Some content, apps or services may behave differently while roaming due to network conditions abroad.
Destinations not included in your roaming allowance
In countries not included in your roaming allowance, calls, texts and data through Lidl Connect won't work there. We recommend downloading a local eSIM, using Wi-Fi, or checking with us before you travel.
Emergency services and accessible emergency access
112 is free to call from any EU/EEA country, UK and Switzerland, even if you've used up your data allowance, run out of credit, or reached your Fair Use Policy limit. In destinations where roaming isn't available, emergency calls may still be possible via other local networks, but this isn't guaranteed and depends on the destination. Check local emergency guidance before you travel to a destination outside the EU/EEA where our roaming isn't available.
Alternative and accessible ways to reach emergency services by destination
Different countries have different national emergency numbers and different accessible means of contacting emergency services (for example, text-to-112, relay services, or emergency apps for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, or who have a speech impairment). This section also serves as our dedicated accessibility information for emergency services while roaming.
For the full, up-to-date country-by-country details — including national emergency numbers, accessible/alternative means of contacting emergency services, and public-warning mobile applications available in each destination — see the official BEREC databases:
- Alternative means of access to emergency services: https://www.berec.europa.eu/en/emergency-means
- Public warning systems: https://www.berec.europa.eu/en/pws
If we're not able to send you a real-time alert about a network or emergency issue in your destination (for example, because of technical limitations of the visited network), we'll tell you this can happen and recommend checking local guidance before you travel.
Accessibility
We want this information to be accessible to everyone. For accessible and alternative means of contacting emergency services in your destination, see above.
- By phone: if you'd prefer, you can request your personalised roaming pricing information by voice call, free of charge. Contact Lidl Plus Support at +353 (1) 9203010 and ask.
- This page: we aim to keep this page in plain, easily understandable English. If you need this information in another format, contact us at customer.services@lidl.ie and we'll help.
Value-added and premium-rate services
Some numbers cost more than a normal call or text, wherever you are — for example, premium-rate numbers and shared-cost numbers used for services like weather lines, competitions, or paid hotlines.
Calls and texts to premium-rate and value-added numbers are blocked while you're roaming with Lidl Connect. You won't be able to reach these numbers, and you won't be charged for them, while abroad.
Avoiding unexpected roaming charges
- Near borders: if you're close to a border, your phone may sometimes connect to a foreign network even though you haven't crossed into that country ("inadvertent roaming"). To avoid this, you can manually select your home network in your phone's network settings instead of leaving it on automatic.
- On ferries and flights: some ships and planes offer connectivity via satellite ("non-terrestrial networks"). These are not covered by Roam Like at Home and can be significantly more expensive. We'll text you a free alert whenever you connect to one of these networks so you know before you use it. You can also switch off data roaming or use flight mode to avoid connecting automatically.
- Switching off automatic data roaming: you can do this in your device settings and control it manually at any time, free of charge.
Managing your welcome messages
Every time you travel, we send you a free text confirming what's included and any limits that apply. If you'd rather not receive this each time, you can switch it off by contacting Lidl customer services at +353 (1) 9203010 and asking to turn off welcome messages. You can turn them back on again at any time, free of charge, in the same way.
Turning this off does not affect your emergency services information, which we'll always send you when relevant.
